Description
Chocorua Lake is familiar to travelers on NH 16 who approach the White Mountains from the south. The view of craggy Mount Chocorua from the lake is one of the most famous in all of New England. Despite the presence of NH 16 on the east and several well-concealed cottages on its western shore, Chocorua Lake manages to have a wild feel. While the mountain commands attention, paddlers on Chocorua Lake are soon drawn to the smaller details of naturethe colorful blooms of water lilies and sheep laurel, the calls of loons, and the swooping of swallows. At 220 acres the lake is relatively small, but winds can pick up and create some big waves, making it necessary to monitor the weather. In good weather, however, this is a great place for family paddling. Much of the western shore of Chocorua Lake is private property, so if you need to take a break and get out of your boat, do so on the conservation land on the eastern and southern shores. show less
