Description
The word "duck" is probably derived from the Old English "duce" meaning "diver." Ducks of the genus Anas are freshwater, surface-feeding "dabbling ducks" that forage in shallow waters by tipping tail-up. The Mallard is the largest of the freshwater dabbling ducks, with a large and heavy body.

Lovely photograph of a flock of about 20 Mallards standing together on a partly frozen pond, with great colors, details, and composition, Mr. Kent! F/L
